Windows Classic Sounds for XP
v.1.0 (20 October 2010)

Ten original "classic" Windows sound schemes adapted for Windows XP:
. Windows 3.1 (1992)
. Windows 95 (1995)
. Windows NT 4 (1996)
. Windows 98 (1998)
. Windows 2000 (2000)
. Windows Me (2000)
. Musica, Robotz, Utopia and Jungle schemes found in Windows 95B, 98, Me, 2000 and NT.

. 122 WAV files

To install.
1 Copy the "Windows Classic" folder and contents as a subfolder of \windows\media
i.e. \windows\media\Windows Classic\
2. Double-click the winClassicSounds.reg file to merge with the Windows Registry
When asked "Are you sure you want to add the information..." choose "Yes"
3. Open the Sounds and Audio Devices control applet in Contol Panel
Start\Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices
4. Click on the "Sounds" tab
5. Choose one of the 10 Windows Classic schemes in the "Sound scheme" drop-down list
Choose to save your existing sound scheme if required
6. Click OK

To uninstall.
1. Open the Sounds and Audio Devices control applet in Contol Panel
Start\Control Panel\Sounds and Audio Devices
2. Select the "Sounds" tab
3. Choose the relevant Windows Classic sound scheme in the "Sound scheme" drop-down list
4. Select Delete to delete the sound scheme (note, this only deletes the scheme list not the files).
5. To delete the sound files if desired, delete the \windows\media\Windows Classic\ folder.

All the original sound files found in the Windows versions are included.
The sound schemes follow the original schemes as laid out by Microsoft; you will find that
Microsoft chose not to use some of the sound files although they were present.
Feel free to update the schemes according to your preferences.

I wish this can be used for Windows 8.

I won't mind hearing those sounds on my laptop.

Love the Windows 95 version if 'The Microsoft Sound'.
I have been looking for the Robots theme for a while now.. I have missed it for so long.  Thanks a bunch for setting this up for everyone.

NOTE:  If you find your sound schemes not work after merging the registry file, you may have to edit the paths within the registry file as I did to full absolute paths.

@="Windows Classic\\Windows 3\\DING.WAV"

Will need to become this:
@="C:\\Windows\\Media\\Windows Classic\\Windows 3\\DING.WAV"\

Bust out your favorite editor and use find and replace to do all the dirty work.  Be sure to use the use your path to windows if it is not C:\Windows... You may have named it something else, or maybe it's C:\WinNT etc etc.

The Lord's Work?

You're doing it.

Can't thank you enough. I will link what I used this in, and reply as a follow-up.

Great Job™!

I downloaded this on my Windows 7 Professional and when I select a scheme, all the sounds have a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it, like there's an error. Does anyone know what to do?? I want the Windows 2000 sound scheme on my computer!

apparently, you have to add the sounds manually. just go to the sound file, and select them

this isnt really needed for windows xp though because the original sound files are still there, but this is great for windows vista, 7 and 8 users.
